How I Became a Writer

I have always been fascinated by the power of people’s stories. As a child I observed how people interacted with one another. Noticing the way different communities interacted and how people understood their own existence.

As I grew older, I found the intricacy of the written word. How it could express the movement of life, and explain stories in vivid detail. I transitioned from being just a reader and observer of things, but to a recorder and writer of life.

In high school I had one bad teacher who soured my love for writing. She told me my writing wasn’t any good and I was bound to fail the final test. At the time, I journaled almost every day, but her harsh words silenced my writing. For two years I could not awake the writer in me. The thoughts simply spun into darkness as my self-esteem burrowed in the ground.

I went through the college years dedicating myself to research, but still could not grasp my writing voice again. It wasn’t until I studied abroad in Thailand that the writer in me began to awake again. What started out as a simple travel blog, soon turned into my life’s career. My personal blog, known as Bethany Jane Travels, helped me develop my skills as a blogger, and taught me to understand how I connect to life. It has since launched me to be a published author in Elephant Journal, Running Stats, and publications with the Northwest Communication Association.

I am continually inspired by the stories of life, and aspire to make a difference with my writing. I believe in dedicated researched articles that can help others. My site Bethany Jane Writes is for professional writing, updates about my career, and a chance for you to connect with me. If you’re interested in working with me, click on the contact page. For now, take the opportunity to explore my writings and learn something new. I am still in the process of building my site, but each day is a step closer to making my writing dreams become reality.

Thank you for taking the time to read part of my journey.
